General Musings on Rio

  1. Lycra shorts, knee high socks and diet EVERYTHING: OK so Rio in many ways reminded me of LA as there is an extreme focus on weight. People everywhere were jogging, running, doing press-ups and playing sports, all in tiny tight lycra. A trend we began to notice was women wearing spandex shorts with BIG socks, light leg warmers pulled all the way up to the shorts and then trainers. It seems that this is the fashion in work-out wear in Rio. Women dressed like this were all over the city as there are many mini-gyms tucked away between shops and offices. There are diet versions of lots of the big brands in the shops as well, diet bread sandwiches, drinks can be made ´light´ and all the time labels saying fat free etc.
  2. Practically everyone in Brazil seems to have a tattoo. It must be because people are tanned, generally fitter wear less clothes. We have seen some weird ones though- chilli peppers on the wrist is the most random.
  3. Tranny mannequins: ok so I know its going to seem like I am obsessed with manequins But they were odd looking in Rio. There was this one shop were the women had really pronounced six packs and huge breasts, they were pretty masculine to say the least. I did get pictures!!!!
